The 180th Oktoberfest attracted 6.4 million visitors from around the world over 16 days. The festival’s boss Dieter Reiter said 6.7 million litre glasses of beer were sold – 200,000 fewer than last year. But with beers costing €10, guests still spent €67 million.

Alongside the popular ox, drinkers also munched through 58 whole calves. And there was also an appetite to get away from the biggest tents invaded by tourists. The traditional Oktoberfest tent had 540,000 visitors.

Lost property also saw a lot of action, with 4,200 items handed in there. They included 1,065 ID cards and passports, 940 pieces of clothing, 520 wallets and purses, 400 keys, 320 mobile phones, 260 pairs of glasses, 35 umbrellas and 30 hunting knives.

Among the more unusual items lost were a set of false teeth, two wedding rings, a Segway and €50,000 in cash, newspaper the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

Visitors also managed to break or steal 81,000 beer glasses.

The Red Cross said alcohol poisoning cases were down on last year and they cared for 7,551 guests – 20 percent less than in 2011.

Police, meanwhile, were called to 2,031 incidents including 449 cases of violence. Sixteen incidents of sexual assault were also reported.

The festival ended on Sunday with a visit from Bayern Munich players who donned lederhosen while their wives opted for traditional dresses, dirndls.

Their Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, however, restricted himself to shorts, woolly socks and a cap as he enjoyed a drink on the final day of the two-week Oktoberfest. "I must say that the hat looks marvelous on him," said Sport Director of Bayern Munich, Matthias Sammer.
