Switzerland tops the WEF’s Human Capital Index, which compares the abilities of 122 countries to “develop and deploy healthy, educated and able workers”.
European countries dominate the index’s top 10, with Finland coming second in the rankings, followed by Singapore, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway.
The United Kingdom, Denmark and Canada round out the top 10, while Yemen ranks dead last in the list, ahead of Mauritania and Guinea.
The index, prepared with help from consultants Mercer, is based on indicators of health and wellness, education, experience and training and legal frameworks or “enabling environments”.
The WEF said that “in addition to investment in human capital across health, education and employment, both (Switzerland and Finland) are able to leverage strong returns through creating an efficient, effective ecosystem or enabling environment.”
To compile the list, WEF used figures from UN organizations, such as the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization and Unesco, along with its own surveys of executives.
