The Ramform Titan, a seismic vessel owned by Norway's Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS), boasts a stern 70m wide, making it one of the world's widest boats.
It arrived in Bergen on Saturday morning, where it will remain until this coming Saturday, when it sails for the south Atlantic to shoot seismic around the Falkland Islands.
"The ship has tremendous power and is therefore okay to manoeuvre," Cato Grasdal, the ship's captain, told Bergens Tidende. "The most unusual thing is that she is so short compared to the width, which makes her difficult to get onto the pier."
PGS describes the boat as the most advanced seismic vessel ever built. The wide stern is designed to drag up to 24 seismic cables, which can shoot seismic over a 12 km2 area, powered by the ship's own on-board 18 megawatt power station.
The ship has space for a crew of 80, who enjoy a 225m2 sports arena, a fitness room, a swimming pool, a sauna, 3 television lounges and an auditorium.
