Woman ‘got dead mum’s benefits for eight years’

A woman in the southern region of Calabria has been arrested for allegedly tricking the social services out of €45,000, by claiming her dead mother's benefits for eight years.

The pensioner died in 2005 but her daughter continued to claim the disability allowance, Calabrie.it reported.

The woman was arrested earlier this week after revenue officers picked up on the anomaly in the coastal town of Scalea.

She was able to trick the system as she had power of attorney to pick up her mother’s benefits while she was still alive, Calabrie.it said.

In June, police in Rome arrested 40 people for allegedly falsely claiming €3,583,000 by pretending to be blind.
