Øyvind Gulli vanquished Italy's Edoardo Ciolli, who has held the title for five unbroken years, by pulling off a series of daring, untested moves.
"I had to do something new and something that no one expected," Gulli told The Local. "I had some new jumps and a little new choreography. It was difficult but it came off well."
Gulli is the leading light among Norway's 1,000-odd competitive disco dancers, winning three of the country's 18 medals in the final, which took place on 15 September in Bochum, Germany.
