Unemployment may be on the rise still but in 2014 thousands of jobs in France will be up for grabs as companies take on new recruits.
This week Le Figaro newspaper published a league table listing the firms that will be taking on staff and how many they plan to take on.
The figures pour cold water on the idea that the job market in France has ground to a halt and companies are only interested in firing, not hiring.
"It's not all doom and gloom," Paris based recruiter Megan Ascione, from EuroLondon Appointments told The Local on Wednesday.
"We have been ok this year and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. If things have not worked out for us for some reason, it's not been because of the lack of jobs out there.
"Ex-pats need to keep that in mind. It is probably similar to in the UK. The market is nowhere near as bad as in 2009. There are jobs out there and it's just a question of finding the right one," she said.
The league table makes for interesting reading, not least the fact that one particular, perhaps unglamorous industry is leading the way for recruitment in 2014.
Without further ado The Local has put together a top 10 in reverse order, to give you an idea of which companies might be easier than others to find a job.
