Stockholm set for north Europe’s tallest flats

The plans will see the 75-storey flats to tower over Telefonplan, a short distance south west of central Stockholm.

Stockholm’s mayor Sten Nordin, and Moderate council member Regina Kevius, deputy mayor for city planning and sports, will hold a press conference later on Monday with more details about the planned skyscraper.

The news comes just one week after Gothenburg announced plans to construct a 200-metre apartment block with 60 storeys in Lindholmen, to be opened in 2021, a building which would have been the tallest in the country. The city council will launch a competition among architects to design the building.

Currently, the tallest apartment block in Sweden is Malmö’s Turning Torso at 190 metres and 54 storeys, so named because the building has a 90-degree twist from the first to the 54th floor.

The Torso is the highest residential building in Europe, after the 264‑metre Triumph Palace in Moscow, and the 212‑metre Sky Tower in Wrocław, Poland.
