Three dead as tourist plane crashes in France

Three people, reportedly including a brother and sister, have been killed after a plane carrying tourists crashed on Thursday in the town of Vertaizon in central France. The nationalities of the victims are not yet known.

Three people have died after a tourist plane crashed at around 9.40 am on Thursday in the central department of Puy-de-Dome, according to French media reports.

The victims included a brother and sister, according to AFP, and were all aged over 70.

The aircraft went down in a field in the town of Vertaizon, 20 km from the city of Clermont-Ferrand, leaving no survivors, according to regional daily La Montage.

The nationalities of the victims have not yet been determined, but according to French daily Le Parisien, the plane had originated in Paris.

One witness described the moment of impact to La Montagne: “We heard a roar, and then turned around to see the airplane crash into the field with a huge explosion.”

La Montagne is reporting that the aircraft's engine was shattered, and debris has been found scattered over dozens of metres in the field.

The accident comes just eight days after another tourist plane crashed in the central Loire region, killing two people.

The following is a video, from La Montagne, of investigators searching the scattered wreckage of the airplane.
