But there was no hostility when the bill, which included champagne at €2,600 a bottle, arrived.
“When the waiter handed them the bill, they responded with professionalism and courtesy,” Leonardo Vescera, the chef at the port-side restaurant, Capriccio, told La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno.
The sailors also stocked up on a few bottles of Krug champagne from the restaurant before returning to their megayacht, Vescara added.
“We shook hands and exchanged a few jokes,” he said.
"To some it may seem exaggerated to pay such a high price for dinner, but for them it’s the norm. It’s the same in places like Vieste, Porto Cervo, Portofino and Capri, we strive on this type of customer.”
