The wine kits included mixtures branded as Chianti, Barolo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Valpolicella, Italy's Ministry of Food and Agriculture said on Wednesday.
All varieties of wine carry the DOP, or Protected Denomination of Origin, label, making them protected products in Italy.
It is unclear how widespread the sale of the wine kits was in the UK before they were seized.
The operation to block the sale of the wine kits was the first of its kind and was hailed as “extraordinary” by Nunzia De Girolamo, Italy’s agriculture minister.
“This is a great moment in the battle for all 'Made in Italy' products,” he said.
