The symbol also depicted gay marriage with the right to have children, the Palermo edition of Corriere reported.
Moscato said he felt very “bitter” about the image, especially because it was projected onto the cathedral on a day “when tens of thousands of people” were celebrating a patron saint.
He described the move as a “dirty provocation” and denounced gay unions with children as “exploitation”.
The mayor of the Sicilian city, Leoluca Orlanda, declined to comment upon his arrival at the cathedral on Sunday, the newspaper said.
The Facebook post has since been removed.
