@oslopolitiops tweeted a clear message on Tuesday, stating "naked man apprehended by police". The information was followed, however, by the rather ambiguous "this time on Sørenga" giving some fellow tweeps the impression that it wasn't the first time that law enforcers in the Norwegian capital had had to get their hands dirty and locked up drug users strolling around in the buff.

Oslo police spokesman Finn Belle declined to comment, however, when daily newspaper Verdens-Gang tried to get to the naked truth of the Twitter innuendo.

"Whether it's systematic, that I can't make a statement about. But we have had a few reports of naked men lately," Belle responded. "It's usually tied to being high or for psychiatric reasons."

The 24-year-old man, with whom the police are acquainted from previous incidents, was walking around with a box in his hands when passers-by alerted the police. Belle confirmed that the police officer who apprehended the pedestrian had found a certain amount of drugs in the box he was carrying, but declined to specify how much.

"We're probably talking about amphetamine."

The Sørenga neighbourhood is a former harbour area being remodelled into an upscale residential area by property developers.
