First post-terror summer camp for Labour youth

The youth wing of Norway's ruling Labour Party (AUF) has assembled for its first summer camp since the Anders Behring Breivik terror attacks two years ago, in which 69 people lost their lives.

The summer camp has assembled almost 1,000 politically active young people, the first time the party has organized a holiday get-together for its young members since the devastating attacks of July 22nd, 2011.

Homegrown extreme-right terrorist Anders Behring Breivik turned the traditional summer assembly of the AUF Youth Wing on Utöya island into a blood bath, killing 69 people, mostly teenagers. He had already killed eight people in an attack on government quarters in central Oslo.

The subsequent trial and conviction of Behring Breivik captivated the world, while the majority of Norwegians united against the terrorist's criticism of migration, Islam, and multiculturalism.

Two years later, Labour Party youth from across Norway travelled to the new summer camp spot, at Gulsrud, near the Tyri Fjord west of Oslo.

"I've never felt safer anywhere else in the world," Sunniva Folgen Høiskar told the NRK network as she arrived at the new locale on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, however, the camp-goers had their bags searched before entering the camping site.

"It makes me feel safe. It's good to know that no one has brought a knife, for example," said Folgen Høiskar.
