When it comes to the fine art of staging a wacky festival, Spain is more than usually gifted. Barely a week goes past without one of the country's cities, towns or villages putting on its own unique event.

There are the usual suspects of course, like Valencia province's La Tomatina festival where thousands gather to hurl overripe tomatoes at each other.

Or there's the fêted — and more than slightly insane — Running of the Bulls in the northern city of Pamplona.

But for this week's The Local List, we've taken a walk on the even wilder side, highlighting some of Spain's lesser-known fiestas.

From a festival in Galicia where people haul a coffin along to a church service, to a fiesta in the Basque fishing village of Lekeitio which sees contestants swinging from the neck of a (dead) bird, there's plenty here to pique anyone's interest.
