‘Voyeur’ filmed women in bar toilets across Paris

Women who frequent bars in Paris might be advised to think twice next time they see a discarded cigarette packet on the toilet floor - it might just contain a hidden camera.

A suspected pervert has been arrested by police on suspicion of hiding mini video cameras in the women’s toilets of bars across Paris.

The suspect, a porter, aged 36, was only unveiled as a voyeur when a bar manager became suspicious that he had placed a camera in the female toilets of his venue in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

The manager immediately alerted the police who discovered that a video camera had been hidden in a cigarette box and placed on the floor of the toilet, RTL radio reported on Tuesday.

The porter was arrested just as he was in the process of placing a second hidden camera in another bar.

When police searched his home they found various mini cameras in the form of pens, as well more than 80 recordings on his computer's hard drive.

The suspect admitted his “voyeuristic tendencies” when questioned by police, French radio Europe1 reported. He also revealed he had hidden cameras in five other bars in the 1st, 2nd and 10th, arrondissements of the capital.

He is set to face trial on June 5th.

This is not the first time a 'video voyeur' has landed in hot water with the law after being caught filming women in toilets.

In March, The Local reported how a French grandfather was handed a one-year suspended sentence for filming more than 1,500 women in the toilets of supermarkets in Brittany.

He also allegedly burned one woman with acid, "hoping she'd have to go and get changed."

He was sentenced for invasion of privacy, as well as ordered to undergo treatment and pay €350 in compensation to the woman who first made the complaint against him.
