Iain Ridgeway was one of 3,682 runners at the seventh annual Airport Run at the still-unfinished Berlin Brandenburg airport on Saturday, regional newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported.
The 33-year-old Manchester-born athlete crossed the finished line with a time of just under one hour 18 minutes, just beating a runner from Berlin’s Olympic Sport Club.
As an experienced mountain runner, hitting a runway was unusual for Ridgeway. “I’ve never run on an airport before and it was really impressive,” he said
Starting at the end of one of the airport’s runways, the race is popular with both local and international athletes.
