Swede ‘dazed but calm’ after record lottery win

The eastern Sweden resident who on Saturday won over 237 million kronor ($36.2 million) in the country's biggest ever lottery windfall has come forward to collect the winnings.

Swede 'dazed but calm' after record lottery win

Svenska Spel’s jackpot of 237,697,528 kronor – the country’s largest ever – went to just one winner on Saturday night, a man in his fifties from Norrköping in eastern Sweden.

“I have now been in contact with the winner and can confirm that it’s the right person. He is of course very dazed but surprisingly calm,” Pierre Jonsson, spokesman for Svenska Spel, said in a statement.

“We can’t go into further information right now, we have to let the person in question take in the information.”

The Norrköping man had paid just 100 kronor for his lottery ticket, and correctly guessed the seven numbers and the two Joker jackpot numbers.

According to the local Norrköpings Tidningar (NT) newspaper, the winner was not a regular lottery ticket shopper at the small newsagent where he made the purchase.

“No, he just drove past the store and bought a ticket,” Jonsson told NT.

The soon-to-be multi-millionaire was out of town over the weekend, and only found out about the win through media reports.
