After all the recent talk about the French being miserable and depressed, The Local has taken a look at the regions of France where people judge themselves to have the best quality of life, using the results of a new report by Canadian researcher Pierre Coté.
Whether it's for wealth, the chances of a job or simple happiness, the inhabitants of certain parts of France perceive themselves as better off than others.
"The best way to measure that elusive feeling of happiness, is to ask people the question," Coté told France's weekly Journal du Dimanche on Sunday. He did this by presenting an online questionnaire containing questions such as "If you could, would you prefer to live now or in the 1950s."
Coté took the responses of more than 20,000 participants, crunched the numbers, and came up with what he calls the 'Relative Happiness Indicator.'
So can you guess what France's best region for love is, or the perfect area to raise a family?
You might be particularly surprised to find out the region of France where people consider themselves the happiest.
