“I can safely say there will be more,” a spokesman from airport operator Fraport said referring to cancelled flights.
Tuesday’s snow and ice plunged Germany’s biggest travel hub into chaos, as 800 flights were cancelled and between 2,500 and 3,000 stranded flyers set up camp at the airport, waiting to get a seat on another plane.
Yet despite almost unavoidable cancellations, the Fraport spokesman suggested that Wednesday would be less chaotic.
Nearby, the A45 motorway was back open after a 100-car pile-up on Tuesday afternoon. At least 30 people were injured, six seriously. There were no fatalities.
