Psychiatric unit told to lift sex ban on patients

A court in France has ruled that a psychiatric hospital was wrong to impose a strict ban on sexual relations between patients.

French television TF1 reported on Friday that an administrative court of appeal has ordered a psychiatric hospital in Gironde, south west France to lift the'excessive' rule.

The court’s ruling followed a complaint made by one unhappy patient who was aggrieved that the restriction covered everyone despite the fact he did “not suffer a psychiatric condition of a sexual nature”.

"This is a decision that makes it difficult for doctors but it is in line with the fundamental rights," the lawyer for the plaintiff told TF1.

"Each patient must be judged case by case," the lawyer added.
