Snow and ice set to hit northern France

As much as 10cm of snow is expected in the Picardie and Nord Pas de Calais regions. The French capital is also expected to get its first dusting of snow this winter.

Temperatures dropped below freezing in parts of the north on Monday with the mercury in the city of Lille plunging to minus 5 overnight.

France’s met office has taken the step of issuing 14 ‘Orange alerts’ across the north of the country, which warn of dangerous conditions such black ice. The alerts are set to remain in place until Tuesday morning.

The cold snap has also hit other regions of France with parts of Burgundy, Alsace and the Massif Central receiving a light covering of snow on Monday morning.
