Fifteen years for ‘mistaken’ Malmö killing

The 29-year-old man was sentenced by the Malmö District Court on Friday for gunning down Charles Limerius in broad daylight on January 3rd last year.

The prosecutor had asked the court for a life sentence.

Limerius, a father of two, was shot dead on Kantatgatan in the southern Swedish city, just 20 metres from his front door in the Lindängen neighbourhood.

The man was hit by six shots, to his head, chest and leg.

Police went public in May with the theory that the killing was likely a mistake, with the intended victim believed to have been a 54-year-old man who lived at the same address.

The 54-year-old man had a lengthy criminal record, and the shooter is believed to have spent two months gathering information about his target, who had connections to two women who were also arrested in connection with the murder.

The women, 28 and 56, were later released.

It is believed that the jailed man was planning to kill the 54-year-old in a revenge attack, as the killer suspected the 54-year-old was involved in the murder of the 28-year-old woman’s father in 1992.
