Car thieves foiled after victim spots ad

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft after their alleged victim spotted his car wheels for sale on an auction website.

The man discovered on Saturday that his set of wheels had been stolen from his parked car in Landskrona in southern Sweden.

“They weren’t just any old wheels. They were worth around 100,000 kronor ($15,000),” Göran Tolf at Helsingborg police told the local HD.se daily.

Instead of bemoaning his loss the man set about searching for his stolen wheels, a search which brought him to the popular auction site Blocket.

While perusing the site he spotted a photo of what he believed to be the valuable wheels pinched from his vehicle the same morning.

The man contacted the police who raided an apartment in Landskrona shortly before 4pm on Saturday afternoon where they found three people and the stolen wheels.

The trio of suspected thieves, a man aged 20-years-old and two women, aged 25 and 26-years-old respectively, were subsequently arrested.

The three have been detained on suspicion of theft with an alternative charge of handling stolen goods.

The wheels have meanwhile been returned to their owner turned sleuth within a day of them having been swiped.
