The gang drove the stolen car into the Bellevue S-Bahn station in the Tiergarten district at 3:20 am Monday, police told the Die Welt newspaper – they rammed the free-standing cash machine so hard that it broke from its base.
Thieves have figured out that most S-Bahn stations lack video surveillance, the paper said.
Most recently a silver Audi and a red van were driven into the Prenzlauer Allee station in north-eastern Berlin and shoved over the cash machine there, the paper said.
The thieves on Monday left the stolen car behind at the scene, and police are not sure how they transported the cash machine, the paper reported.
There are no video images from the crime scene, a police spokesman told the Tagesspiegel newspaper, and no information has been released on how much money may have been in the machine.
Investigators are checking for connections with the other thefts, the Tagesspiegel said.
