Founded by British art dealer Will Ramsey, the fair started in 1999 and since then has given art-buffs in London, Mexico City, Singapore, Milan and Hong Kong the chance to browse emerging talent in the contemporary art scene.
It opens in Hamburg from November 15 to 18 – and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper said on Friday the news had given Hanseatic art fans cause for celebration, with Ramsey filling a hole in the city that had long been empty.
Voted “Coolest Brand in the UK” for three years in a row, the “Affordable Art Fair” promises on its website to be “innovative, different, open and forward-thinking.”
Those attending are encouraged to ask the artists as many questions as they can, and talk to as many as possible – the website says: “there are extraordinary and extroverted characters among them.”
The whole event is geared up to providing the buyer with something that fits their budget, and guests are welcome to ask if a piece comes in a different size, if the one they are looking at is too expensive.
