Most of Germany can look forward to a brief Indian summer this week as mild sea winds from the Mediterranean brings sunny skies and warmer temperatures to the country said the national weather service DWD.

Last week’s cold snap came to a sudden end on Wednesday for most of Germany, when temperatures jumped from an average of 13 up to 18 degrees Celsius. Highs of 20 degrees were seen in the south and many areas basked in prolonged sunshine.

On Thursday patchy rain and fog should keep temperatures down in the north west unfortunately, but the rest of the country is expected to enjoy the beginning of a dry, clear spell, with average temperatures of between 16 and 22.

Going into the weekend most of the country will see widespread sunshine, with highs of 23 degrees on Friday and 22 degrees on Saturday.

Once again, patchy rain, fog and thick cloud are expected to spoil the fun in the north west on Friday and over the weekend.

Nights will remain mild everywhere this week, however, with little chance of frost, although in the early mornings there is likely to be widespread fog.

“The mild sea air masses will gradually come under high pressure – that means clear and dry weather, but only once the early, rather stubborn fog has lifted,” said meteorologist Thomas Ruppert.
