In 2009, the boy, who was 13 at the time, stabbed his maths teacher after being given a detention or not handing in his homework.
Scared his father would find out, the boy thought the only way to avoid the punishment was to kill his teacher – he stabbed her once in the chest.
The teacher, now 41, has returned to teaching after taking some time off for the physical and psychological damage after the attack.
Before making its decision, the court heard from the boy’s lawyer that they should not think of the incident as a sign of delinquency, but “as the mistake of a young boy”.
The boy, charged with attempted murder, was given five years in prison, three years of which is to be suspended.
