Every autumn, the city of Gothenburg becomes flooded with literature lovers and bookworms looking to leaf through what’s on offer at the annual Göteborg Book Fair.
Photo Gallery: 8 reasons to visit the Göteborg Book Fair
Starting from a modest 5,000 visitors in 1985, the fair now draws around 100,000 visitors who pour through the exhibition hall to peruse new releases, meet writers, and mingle with other like-minded literature fans at one of the nearly 1,000 exhibition tables.
This year’s fair is being billed as “the most Nordic fair ever”, and while there won’t be a shortage of authors from Nordic and Scandinavian countries, the Göteborg Book Fair will also feature writers from a host of other countries, including Nobel and Pulitzer prize winners.
Press freedom and freedom of expression are also important themes at this year’s fair, which will feature journalists who’ve spent time in prison and others who’ve been forced into exile.
Basically, there’s something for everyone at the Göteborg Book Fair. But in case you still need convincing, check out The Local’s list of the top eight attractions at the 2012 event.
