Apple glitch wipes Gothenburg off the map

Several Swedish towns and islands are missing from Apple maps - the service that has replaced Google maps in Apple's new operating system, iOS 6.

Apple glitch wipes Gothenburg off the map

Sweden’s second biggest city, Gothenburg is not on Apple’s map of the west-coast of Sweden. Another smaller town in the region, Mölndal, has been misplaced and the names of several Gothenburg archipelago islands have been mixed up.

Several Swedish users of the new Apple maps took wrong turns this week after being misled.

A driver trying to find the town of Vara, also in the west of Sweden, told Sveriges Television (SVT) that he had to rely on street signs after realizing that Apple had misplaced the town by six kilometres and placed it on the wrong side of the motorway.

Apple has faced widespread criticism since the launch of its maps function on Thursday. Streets and towns around the world have been obliterated.

Users have found that searches for an in-town destination can pull up an entirely different city, and there is no built-in information about public transport.

The website The Amazing iOS 6 Maps lists Apple Maps mistakes from around the world.

According to the Swedish website idg.se Apple is now looking to hire new developers to help improve its map service. They have asked for users to be patient as they work to correct the glitches.
