Young Swedish men warned over ‘fake’ Viagra

Young and fit Swedish men without erectile problems are increasingly abusing potency heightening drugs, erroneously believing they are lust enhancing, according to the Swedish police.

Young Swedish men warned over ‘fake’ Viagra

“Many are taking these before going out and probably think Viagra has an effect on lust, but that isn’t the case,“ said Lennie Hammarstedt, authorized sexologist from Gothenburg to news agency TT.

In many cases the drugs are bought from unlicensed internet sites and police say that the “natural products” they buy often turn out to contain the same substances as Viagra but in uncontrolled doses.

Potency pills are well known on the night club scene. Police often find them in the partygoers’ pockets when frisking them.

“On officer told me how every other person seem to have these pills on them, mainly fakes. But that isn’t what we are looking for and therefore it doesn’t show up in the reports,” said Elin Hernstedt, of the Stockholm police to TT.

Staff at the emergency unit at Stockholm South General Hospital (Södersjukhuset) knows of several cases where teenage boys have been forced to seek medical help after taking potency pills for recreational purposes and subsequently not being able to lose their erections.
