Social Democrat MP dies after battling illness

“She has kept working and not wanted to let it affect her work. I, as so many others, was hoping that the illness had gone away,” said party colleague and friend Carina Hägg to daily Expressen.

Moberg, who was born in 1966 and lived in Huddinge south of Stockholm, was a trained physiotherapist and was elected into the Riksdag in 1994.

She became group leader for her party in the Riksdag under the leadership of former party head Håkan Juholt, but was replaced with Mikael Damberg when current head Stefan Löfven took up the role as Social Democrat leader.

“When I took over as party leader, Carina was our group leader in the Riksdag and an amazing support during my first time as party head. We will remember Carina for her kind heart, clear values and great commitment, especially on housing issues,” said Stefan Löfven in a statement on Wednesday.

The Social Democrat head received word of the passing of his party colleague on Wednesday morning.

“Today our thoughts go out to Carina and her husband Johnny and their two children,” Löfven said.
