Prosecutors believe that the 19-year-old raped Hilda Feste and then killed her in an attempt to flee. He is now set to stand trial for murder.

The elderly woman was found dead on January 1st 2012, and the case has received a great deal of attention. The 19-year-old was arrested six weeks later and has now been charged with rape and murder.

The police have secured DNA traces of the suspect and his fingerprints were found in the victim's blood. The teenager has however denied the charges.

"Our client is taking this very hard. We will now work towards the trial, and I don't want to say anything over and above that," the man's lawyer Ivar Abrahamsen told the NTB news agency.

According to the charge sheet the 19-year-old (who was 18-years-old at the time) inflicted severe injuries on Hilda Feste after several blows to the head. The pensioner died shortly after of her injuries.

The man's explanation remained that he experienced a black out after a party and can't remember anything, according to his lawyer. The 19-year-old's mother has also given him an alibi, saying that her son arrived home some 15 minutes before the emergency services were called.

The two properties are only 100 metres apart.

Bergen county police however consider the body of evidence to be strong in the case.
