The tourist, who would have celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday, fell into a crevasse outside the secure ski area from a height of around 15 metres, police said.
The accident most likely occurred on Wednesday, July 4th, according to the Valais cantonal police.
A rescue party found the body on Tuesday after a search involving helicopters, mountain guides and rescue dogs.
Jorge Mario Brenes Jaikel left his parents and one of his sisters in Vevey to go snowboarding alone last Wednesday at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in Zermatt.
His last known movements indicate that he withdrew cash from an ATM, rented snowboarding equipment and made his way to the ski lift at around 10am.
His family became concerned when he did not return by train to Vevey as planned on Thursday. They reported his disappearance to the police when he failed to show up for a work-related flight to London on Saturday.
