The firefighter also claims he had cold water thrown over him in the middle of winter and had his head shaved.
Le Figaro newspaper reported that the incident allegedly took place in a fire station in the eastern Saone-et-Loire region.
The head of the fire brigade there said the matter was being taken seriously.
“If there are sanctions to take, we will take them,” said Colonel Marlot.
The victim himself said he had made the complaint to protect others.
“I was waiting for apologies but they didn’t come,” he said. “I have made this complaint so that the same thing doesn’t happen to other people. Also, because it was too hard to keep it to myself.”
The latest report of hazing comes a month after thirteen firefighters were detained after a younger recruit alleged he was raped by colleagues in a packed bus.
The public prosecutor on the case said there was no charge of rape in this case. Nor were there any allegations of sexual abuse or other violence.
