The incident started with a traffic accident on Tuesday, which the 20-year-old had nothing to do with.

When police arrived on the scene, they felt the man was acting strangely. He then fled when police approached him for questioning. He first crashed into a civilian police car, and then attempted to run over a patrolling police man.

According to the prosecutor, his actions were nothing short of attempted murder.

During the subsequent police chase through central Malmö the 20-year-old hit three cyclists at high speed.

One of them, a 60-year-old man, later died from his injuries.

According to an eye-witness, the wild chase was tearing through central streets at speeds over 100 km/h. The pursuit was brought to an end when police eventually rammed the 20-year-old’s car.

The 20-year-old confessed to the police that he’d killed the cyclist, according to local newspaper Sydsvenskan.

During negotiations he accepted the prosecutor’s classification of his offenses as aggravated involuntary manslaughter, but denied having committed manslaughter.

However, the man has denied trying to run over the police officers, but was still remanded for attempted murder of the police officer who was not in the car.

According to Sydsvenskan, he will be prosecuted latest on June 29.

An investigation of suspected professional misconduct has also begun, to look into the police officers’ actions.

Information from the officers has been contradictory and partially denied by witnesses.
