Madonna kicked off her world tour in Israel with a video that incensed the French far-right party. The video features a photomontage of the National Front leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika on her forehead. The footage is then quickly followed by another photomontage featuring Hitler and Madonna.
“It’s offending,” said Le Pen in a video broadcast by PictaPresse this week, “and I’m going to urge my daughter to sue Mrs. Madonna and all those who organised the international show for one million dollars.”
On Sunday, Marine Le Pen had also threatened Madonna with legal action. “If she tries that trick in France, we’ll fight back,” said Le Pen while she was visiting a market at Limours-en-Hurepoix, south of Paris.
“Old singers crave attention, it’s understanding that they go to such extremes,” she added.
Marine Le Pen is currently campaigning for the parliamentary elections and faces her arch-rival far-left Jean-Luc Melenchon for the same seat in the northern town of Henin-Beaumont.
