Löw: I’m favouring the Bavarians

German national football coach Joachim Löw said Sunday he will rely more on Bayern Munich players than those from champions Dortmund for Euro 2012 - because the Bavarians have more international experience.

Dortmund beat Bayern twice in a row to take the Bundesliga title and the German DFB Cup, while Bayern completed their misery a week later by failing to beat Chelsea in the Champions League final on May 19.

But Löw is discounting that and says experience outside Germany is what counts.

“The Dortmund players are very, very strong nationally. They are coming up. But they are not as internationally tested as the Bavarians,” he said in an interview on Sunday, before leaving on Monday for the team’s training camp in Gdansk.

Germany’s first game in the European Championship is against Portugal next Saturday, and Löw plans to only start those with international experience.

“[The European Championships] have a different level,” he said. “With all due respect, we are not playing against Hoffenheim, Nuremberg etc. We are playing against the top 10 in the world – against Spain, the current World and European champions. That’s the highest level.”

Löw’s national squad includes four players from Dortmund, but eight from Bayern Munich, by far the largest representation of any Bundesliga team.

Not everyone is so happy with the Bayern players. Midfield legend Lothar Matthäus criticized the team in an interview on Tuesday with sports website eurosport.yahoo.de..

“The Bayern team is composed of too many players who are out for themselves, as opposed to Dortmund players who play more like a team,” Matthäus said.

RACISM

VIDEO: Spain’s La Liga reviews video of boy racially abusing Vinicius

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
