Spring started early this year, with March being much sunnier, drier and milder than expected, news website Blick reported.
Temperatures were on average four degrees higher than normal, in some places reaching up to 20 degrees.
In Ticino, two “summer” days were recorded, which means that temperatures had reached 25 degrees or more.
The number of hours of sunshine recorded reached July levels, usually the sunniest month of the year, and was double the normal level for March. There was also very little rain, which has increased the danger of forest fires.
Unfortunately though, the fine weather is expected to tail off on Tuesday, with cooler temperatures returning over the week and averages of only 11 degrees expected for Easter weekend.
Much of the country will experience rain showers too from Wednesday. Good Friday is expected to be cloudy, with average temperatures of 15 degrees, weather website SF Meteo reported.
