The four trekkers had on Sunday been able to contact relatives and assure that they were safe.
A helicopter had been dispatched to the area on Sunday to search for the men, but police have now called off the search.
The men had not been heard from since Monday after they set off in poor weather into the Suorva area in the Stora Sjöfallet National Park.
despite taking a decision to launch the operation, Norrbotten police played down fears over the men’s plight as they are known to be experienced trekkers.
“I am not at all worried at the moment. They are used to the mountains and have a tent and clothes with them. Mobile telephones don’t work in the mountains, there is poor coverage,” said Erik Kummu at Norrbotten police said on Sunday morning.
Stora Sjöfallet National Park spans across Gällivare and Jokkmokk municipality and is located some 20 kilometres above the Arctic Circle.
The national park covers an area of 1,278 square kilometres and is part of the Laponian area which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the highlights in the area include the Count and the Countess, the Áhkká massif and the Áhkká terraces.
