The body of the man was found at 11am on Sunday morning by close relatives who were visiting the man’s apartment in Kiruna in northern Sweden.
“We are labelling this case as murder,” said Mikael Norén of the Norrbotten police to daily Aftonbladet.
Norén refused to comment about the circumstances surrounding the case, and would not divulge any information of the circumstances surrounding the relatives and their involvement in the discovery.
Local police have so far remained tight lipped and revealed very little.
“I cannot say anything about it. The investigation surrounding the circumstances of his death is ongoing and it is unclear what has happened,” said Norén to the paper.
The man’s apartment has been sealed off pending forensic investigation.
As of Monday morning, no one has been taken into custody in connection with the murder.
