Road flooded with 13 tonnes of human waste

A faulty trunk cover on a human waste truck made for an unpleasant car ride for several surprised drivers on Mörkö, south of Stockholm.

As the trunk opened by mistake on Tuesday, some 13 tonnes of faecal waste splashed out onto the road, reported local newspaper Länstidningen Södertälje (LT).

Several cars were hit by the smelly load, and the local police force received several reports during the day.

“Apparently the cars have smelled incredibly bad. But it was an accident, of course,” said police officer Mikael Olsson to LT.

The event has been labelled an aggravated environmental crime, and Stockholm’s county investigators, specialized in environmental crime, have been put on the case.

One appalled driver wrote in his police report that, “the sludge lodged in the car’s paint, and several small nooks,” according to LT.

Fortunately, the clean-up of the foul-smelling road was aided by a timely shower. The rain washed most of the waste off the road, and a clean-up crew was called in to take care of the rest.
