Girl hurt as women’s football match turns to brawl

A 17-year-old football player was beaten up during a football match in Paris on Saturday. Her coach has said he now plans to quit because of violence in the game.

A friendly match between two teams of girls turned brutal on Saturday, when a player – whose team won the game 6-3 – was beaten up.

Noor, 17 years old, has a 10-cm sore on her leg, a contusion on her shoulder and a paralysed hand after being assaulted at the end of the match.

She was playing for a girl’s team from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, west of Paris, against a team from the capital’s posh 16th district and scored four goals during the match.

Daily Le Parisien reported that Noor was attacked when she was celebrating victory at the end of the game.

“The goalkeeper punched me in the face. I spun around and then she grabbed my hair and dragged me to the floor. Then several girls from the other team started kicking me,” Noor told police.

The coaches from both teams tried to protect the victim.

Claude, the volunteer coach training Noor’s team, said he plans to hand in his notice at the end of the season.

“I have to show the girls I am strong and not let anything show. They were so courageous and dignified. But for me, it’s over,” he told Le Parisien.

VIDEO: Spain’s La Liga reviews video of boy racially abusing Vinicius

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
