22-year-old seeks French presidential candidacy

A 22-year old communications student is seeking to bring attention to youth issues by putting himself forward as a potential candidate for France's 2012 presidential election.

Maxime Verner needs the support of 500 mayors if he is to fulfill the requirements in France to run for the country’s highest office. At almost 200 signatures, he’s already well on his way.

In terms of a platform—he’s got one, having previously published his 89 proposals in a book seeking to unite young people “of all ages”.

Verner positions himself as the spokesperson for the young, but when pushed on the question, he admits he does not really see himself in the Elysée next year.

His agenda is more about raising awareness about youth issues and hoping to get the top candidates to make them more of a priority.
