“He admits to certain aspects in the chain of events,” prosecutor Daniel Strand told newspaper Metro.
In the wake of the incident, which took place in October in the eastern suburb of Ekerö, and several other reports of abusive behaviour carried out against his 7-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, the father is now facing charges of abuse, assault and unlawful coercion.
Among other things, the father is accused of hitting the children and forcing them to take cold showers.
The father, who is in his forties, allegedly threw his daughter in the water after an argument between the two in the family car last October.
A neighbour reported the man to police after seeing him grab his daughter and tossing her, fully-clothed, into the water, which was estimated to be about ten degrees Celsius at the time.
According to Metro, the man’s son told investigators that his father had thrown his sister in the water on a number of previous occasions.
However, investigators have been unable to confirm the boy’s accounts, which have since been denied by the father.
