Shit hits the fans at Bundesliga match

Bundesliga matches took bizarre and unappetising turns at the weekend, with a Hoffenheim employee blasting Borussia supporters with a high-pitched siren – and Cologne fans showering their Schalke rivals with faeces and urine.

A TSG 1899 Hoffenheim worker faces disciplinary procedures after admitting on Monday he had set up loudspeakers in the visitors’ stands and activated them whenever they had started to chant offensive slogans against his football club’s president Dietmar Hopp.

Media reports over the weekend included puzzled references to a shrill, deafening noise which would blast out across the Borussia Dortmund fan block whenever they started chanting anti-Hopp abuse.

Now a Hoffenheim employee has admitted setting up sirens in the visitors’ stands, and activating them whenever they started shouting. He said he did not appreciate how loud they would be, and claimed he had meant it to be a joke.

The police have now become involved after an official complaint of bodily harm from a Borussia fan who said he suffered earache after the match.

Schalke 04 fans meanwhile might have chosen a howling siren given the choice – at their team’s match against 1 FC Köln over the weekend, some were showered with faeces and urine by the opposition.

The police confirmed on Tuesday that at least one person in the Köln fan block had been seen ‘placing’ faeces into a plastic beer glass and then throwing it at his rivals. The solid organic missile was followed by at least two urine-filled plastic beer glasses.

“We as a club obviously distance ourselves from these people,” said a spokesman for 1 FC Köln fans. “This behaviour is not acceptable. There cannot be two opinions on this.”

VIDEO: Spain’s La Liga reviews video of boy racially abusing Vinicius

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
