No one was injured in the Saturday afternoon shooting spree which apparently targeted the house’s furniture and other objects, Schaffhausen police said in a statement. The man did not resist his arrest.
Authorities were alerted by alarmed neighbours who heard the shots and quickly cordoned off the area. A special police force entered the apartment without incident and arrested the shooter, who fired up to 70 shots with a double-barrelled gun, the statement said.
Police said the man was upset about his “relationship problems.”
The Blick newspaper reported the man’s wife had been planning to divorce him and the man is also believed to have lost his job. The shooter is currently being treated at a psychiatric unit, the paper said.
