Several planes arriving from the United States “could not take off again (from France) due to storms that impacted the structure of the aircraft during the flight”, Bernard-Xavier Spokojny, marketing and communications director at the French airline, told AFP.
“We distributed food and offered everyone accommodation in airport hotels. Some passengers who live in the Paris area chose to go home. Around 30 others decided to stay in the airport”, said Spokojny.
Some passengers stranded since Saturday night were due to leave for New York on a flight with another airline on Sunday evening.
Tensions nearly boiled over as fraught passengers attempted to block the check-in of passengers for another XL Airways flight but “security forces calmed things down”, said Spokojny.
