Teen stabbed to death on Stockholm football pitch

An inebriated 29-year-old man attacked a group of teenagers playing football in Hässelby in western Stockholm on Monday night, leaving an 18-year-old dead from stab wounds.

The friends’ kick-about was interrupted suddenly at around 9pm on Monday as the bleeding 18-year-old fled for his life from the man who was brandishing a knife. While he evaded further attack, the teenager later died of his injuries.

The tragedy occurred at 9pm on Monday evening in Hässelby gård in western Stockholm. Aside from the 18-year-old, two other teenagers sustained knife wounds in the attack.

There were several witnesses to the drama and several recognised the attacker and knew where he lived.

The man was arrested soon after in his apartment, on suspicion of murder. He had not been interviewed by Tuesday morning as he was inebriated at the time of his arrest, according to the police.

The background to the sudden attack is as yet unknown.

“It is probably something which has gone awry in connection with the alcohol or something similar,” said Marie-Louise Nilsson at Stockholm police to the TT news agency.

The police have not connected the incident to any criminal operations. Neither the attacker nor the football-playing friends are previously known to the police.

Three injured in suspected knife attack in central Sweden

Police were called to the scene at shortly before 1.30pm on Friday after several people were found injured with stab wounds.

“There have been injured with a sharp object but whether it is a knife or something else, we do not know right now,” Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro, a spokesperson from the local police told Sweden’s public broadcaster SVT. “They are being treated by paramedics on the scene. I do not know yet what their condition is.”

Three ambulances have been sent out to the street where there attack appeared to have taken place.

“We have opened an investigation into aggravated assault and are currently building up our picture of what happened,” Ahlén-Svalbro said. “We have already received several witness statements and would like to hear from any other witnesses who have seen or heard something.

He did not say whether police believed that the three injured people had attacked one another or whether the attacker was still at large.

According to Sweden’s TT newswire, police had received a report earlier on Friday that a teenage boy had been abused with a stick outside a school in city, but the police do not yet know if the events are connected.
