The court convicted the woman and gave her a suspended fine, but cleared the dog’s owner at the time, who was not present at the time of the 2009 attack, said a report on 24 Heures newspaper.
The woman, who did not have the appropriate authorization to manage dangerous dogs, was walking the pit bull and three other large dogs and was therefore unable to restrain the animal when it lurched at the baby, who was in a stroller, the report said. The parties may now appeal the verdict, leading to a public trial.
A report on Le Matin said the dog, called “Baxter,” is currently being re-educated in a dog training centre and is waiting for a new owner. An earlier decision to put the dog down was overturned this year, the paper said.
