Monday was the hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures topped 34 degrees Celsius in Sion, Canton Valais. Temperatures far above the 30-degree mark were also registered in the rest of the country, including in Zurich, Basel and Geneva, according to weather service MeteoSwiss.
Tuesday is expected to be even hotter, after a “tropical night” when temperatures never dropped below 20 degrees.
A break from the heat and some rain are expected for Wednesday while the next weekend will see more pleasant temperatures above 23 degrees across most of Switzerland, MeteoSwiss said.
